As the bus (Line 51, Train 01) was backing up, this SUV snuck up behind. The driver never saw the car.

As you can clearly see, the sign says NO PARKING.

Reports stated that the driver of the SUV became agitated, so the TriMet Supervisor called Transit Police. Officers from Department of Homeland Security, Oregon City PD, Milwaukie PD, and Portland Police arrived.

This was a very low speed collision. As you can see there was no damage.

The supervisor was quoted as saying, “We got very lucky.”

This is at the line 51 Vista layover on 5th and Salmon. It’s not a good location for a bus layover, because there are often cars legally parked at the rear of the block, including Trimet supervisor vehicles and delivery trucks, and random cars at the rear of the bus zone, giving a line 51 operator the only choice of pulling into the front of the zone where the line 15 Belmont stops. The supervisors don’t want line 51 buses parking there, so they often ask the operators to back the buses up to make room for the Belmont buses to stop. Not a safe operation at all. The former layover was at 2nd and Morrison, which was a much better location, a bus zone only on a whole block . Same goes for 2nd and Taylor. There are plenty of better options.
